  • Information for Prospective Year 12 Students

    Dear Prospective Sixth Form Student,

Welcome to the St Bernard’s High School community!

St Bernard’s has a long tradition of successfully providing a holistic Catholic education to all within our mixed sixth form which has at its heart our two school mottos Dieu Mon Abri (God my shelter) and ‘to love one another as I have loved you.’

High educational standards alongside all-encompassing pastoral care make St Bernard’s more than a school – we are a family!  We recognise and seek to further develop, deepen and nurture the individual talents and abilities of all of our students whilst exposing them to the endless possibilities for their futures.  We prioritise getting to know our students as we understand our role in helping and guiding them towards their chosen paths enabling them to have professionally and personally fulfilling lives.  I am supported by a committed and talented staff who share in this vision and know how vital it is for us to know your  capabilities and how we support you to meet and excel against challenging targets.  Every sixth form student matters to our school community.

As Headteacher, I am ambitious for every young person who enters the doors of St Bernard’s.  I bring my passion for education, energy and enthusiasm to my role as Headteacher at St Bernard’s so that all may continue to see the St Bernard’s community flourish.

I believe that joining St Bernard’s sixth form is a major decision in your life.  You will develop academically, spiritually and socially, and it is important to us that you feel happy and safe, and that you thrive within the environment you choose.  I am confident that you will feel this way about St Bernard’s sixth form, and I look forward to welcoming you in future.

I wish you every success in the coming academic year.

    Warm regards

    Allison Moise-Dixon

    Introduction to Key Staff

       Mrs Brook - Learning Mentor

My name is Mrs. Brook and I am the Learning Coach in school. I have been at St Bernard's since 2010 and I work predominantly with GCSE and A Level students. My role in school is to provide strategies and support with organisation and study skills to help create confident and independent learners. I work with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups and as part of the pastoral team I work closely with Heads of Year and teachers to help support the students I work with more effectively. I also help students with motivation, their general well-being and many other issues they may have. I look forward to meeting you all and working with you.

       Mrs Davies - Careers Co-ordinator

Hello! I am St Bernard’s Careers Co-ordinator and responsible for Careers Education and Guidance throughout the school. I co-ordinate the Careers provision within the school, I provide careers information, advice and guidance to students, and co-ordinate Work Experience. Students are able to see me throughout the school day. Most students have an individual careers interview especially those in years 9-13. The careers interview can cover anything and students can see me as often as they like until they feel happy about their academic [GCSE and A Level subjects], study [Further and Higher Education] and career and employment choices. My office is in the Dining Hall Extension at the top of the stairs. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

"St Bernard's is a unique school which offers subjects that have indefinitely carved my education and who I am. It has led me onto a path that no other school would be able to offer. The support from my teachers combined with the school's encouraging atmosphere gives me motivation to work hard and strive for the best every day in everything I do".
